A dozen families with children receiving care at Children’s Hospital in Buffalo took to the ice for some sled hockey fun as The Sled Hockey Foundation (SHF) supported a great event at Northtown Center on Sunday, January 27th.
This Just Try It event was the first of three planned for the members of the Stone’s Buddies program to try this tremendous adaptive sport. Stone’s Buddies provides recreational and social activities for chronically ill children and their families.
A couple of the kids were back for a second experience with sled hockey having participated last winter at a similar event. The SHF works to link interested children with sled hockey programs in the Western New York region. These events have resulted in several children with disabilities to go on to play sled hockey.
"This is fun – my nephew loves this. It’s challenging but achievable. We’re looking forward to the next event," commented one of the many adults sharing in the evening.
The Sled Hockey Foundation is happy to be growing its collaboration with the Children’s Hospital and expanding the opportunity to share the benefits of sled hockey with people who can benefit by the challenging experience. This effort is supported by a generous grant from the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo.
