Holden Miller wanted to take advantage of ice time that was sponsored by The Sled Hockey Foundation (SHF) at Cornerstone Arena, in Lockport, NY, on Father’s Day. His father, Peter, and mother Kristen were happy to oblige, and they ended up having a very unique opportunity – Holden skated one-on-one with 3-time Paralympic sled hockey Gold Medalist Adam Page!
For nearly ninety minutes, Holden and Adam passed the puck around, shot on net, and had a great time getting Holden increasingly comfortable in the sled hockey gear. Holden has both hearing loss, and a mobility disability that prevents him from skating upright; however, his boundless energy and love of sports compelled his mom and dad to find a sport for him to play and sled hockey is it! The family has attended the three spring ice times at Cornerstone Arena in Lockport that have been part of the SHF’s effort to grow the sport in Niagara County.
“Holden couldn’t wait to get here today – he loves it. It’s an awfully nice way to spend Father’s Day,” Peter stated as he watched Holden race around the ice with Adam.
The SHF will be conducting several more Just Try It events at Cornerstone Arena in the coming weeks and months. Keep an eye on the SHF’s website and monthly Newsletter for information on upcoming sled hockey events. These events are free and aimed at introducing this great sport to the public.
Please note that the SHF always welcomes donations from the community as those generous investments allow the foundation to do its work to provide recreational opportunities to mobility disabled children, adults, and injured military veterans.
The SHF thanks Cornerstone Arena for their partnership, as well as deeply appreciates the generous grant support from the Grigg Lewis Foundation.
