Just Try It in full effect at Canalside with SHF members and guests on the ice
The Sled Hockey Foundation (SHF) held a terrific Just Try It event at Canalside on the Sunday following the Thanksgiving holiday.
The Canalside Just Try It event is a great way to introduce the sport of sled hockey to a broader audience by getting anyone in a sled who is interested. Most who try the sport comment on the significant challenges of navigating the ice in a sled and the new-found respect they have for the athletes who do so. By raising awareness of the sport, the SHF hopes to also grow support for more area sled hockey programs so that any person living with a disability who wants to participate in this adaptive sport has the opportunity.
Adam Page, two-time U. S. Paralympic Gold Medalist and Lancaster native, was on hand to sign autographs and skate with participants. Approximately 40 people tried out sleds during the first ice of the season for Canalside.
Todd Clark, Senior Event Manager at Canalside stated, “The event was a great compliment to our kickoff weekend at the Ice at Canalside. We look forward to the two other events we have planned and hope they will continue to grow and have success.”
There are two additional Just Try It events scheduled for this season at Canalside – one on Sunday, December 17th and another on Sunday, January 7th. Both events will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
We encourage any and all interested to come out, get in a sled, and see what this great adaptive sport is all about while enjoying the beautiful rink and surroundings at Canalside.
